Rubik

This was made for an 80's themed party. Rodney and I collaborated on this cake, he was a huge help with this one!

It's a three tiered cake with two layers in each tier. The top and bottom tiers are chocolate and the middle tier is vanilla. The entire cake was covered with black-dyed chocolate buttercream and the tiles were made from marshmallow fondant.

This cake was a little more challenging than I anticipated. There's a definite structure rule you have to follow and I had to learn that the hard way. It's also always a little more challenging when you decide to do a themed/carved cake with buttercream instead of fondant.

Either way, I'm pleased with the result. The colors of the tiles are dead on.

Hi Steph,

Your cakes are AMAZING. So clever and beautiful. If it's okay by you, I'd love to feature your site on the Evite blog (http://blog.evite.com/).

BTW, you mentioned that the red-and-green cupcakes you made were supposed to match the invitation for the party. Was that an Evite invitation? If so, it would be fun to mention that.

Eva,

Thanks for visiting and thanks for the props!

The cupcakes and cookies were for an Evite invitation actually, I will add that to my post right away!

I'd love to be featured! Thanks again and nice to meet you!

Nice to meet you too!

Do you happen to remember which invitation they used? I'd love to be able show the invite alongside your cupcakes to show what you did with them.

And I'm in AWE of your turkey cake!!!!

Eva,

Thanks so much, that was a fun one to make!

I changed my entry to have a link to the invite she used, you should be able to click on the link in the sentence about her wanting the cupcakes and cookies to match the evite! let me know if that doesn't work for you!
