iPhone or iCake?

This was made for two of Rodney's co-workers. Every year when it comes to June, I have a hard time coming up with a common theme for these two dudes. They are very different people! One thing they do have in common though is that they both have an iPhone (along with everyone else at good ol' Charlie Uniform Tango) and a love for things Macintosh (again - along with everyone else at CUT).

The idea of this cake was simple enough and the actual design was not difficult. The "buttons" are what were challenging. Challenging and time consuming.

Rodney cut out each individual square and did we both did some work on each of them. Specifically, he made the highway sign, the text message box ( I piped it ), the phone, the iPod and the compass. I did all of the piping (both the stocks and the settings buttons were piped entirely with buttercream), the calculator, the notes button, the clock and the flower.

The cake is triple chocolate with chocolate mousse filling and chocolate buttercream (tinted black). The silver parts of the phone are fondant painted with brilliant silver luster dust.

I'm pleased with this cake. I think my words could have been piped a little cleaner but it was hard to gauge how much space I had when I was piping them. I really enjoyed making the buttons for this cake. It was a lot of fun to use the two different mediums to create what I was going for. I think they came out pretty good too!

Close up's and one extra shot!

Baby girl Cupcakes

These were made for a dinner honoring a woman about to have a baby girl!

They were a last minute order so I tried to come up with something cute and girly! I love the way the little white chocolate feet turned out!

(these are vanilla cupcakes with vanilla buttercream)

Mimosa flavored cupcakes

These were an experiment.

This flavor has been floating around here and there. I've heard of people making mimosa flavored cupcakes and since my friend Amy had a taste of one at a bridal show (she said she loved it), I decided I should try to make it.

This was an impromptu trial as I was in the cake shop this afternoon and decided to buy some champagne flavoring.

I added orange flavoring to a vanilla cake recipe and topped it off with champagne flavored buttercream.

I turned out pretty good. I would say it tastes like a cross between a creamsicle and a mimosa. Rodney says they taste like bubble gum. I'm not really sure that's what I was going for ...

I think for my next attempt I might try adding some orange zest to the batter - I think I might also do a creamy orange mousse filling and then top it off with the champagne flavored buttercream.

This attempt did come out pretty well though and I'm pretty sure it's Rodney's new favorite!

Beautiful Bridal

This cake was made to match the invitation that was sent out for a bridal shower.

It's a lemon cake with vanilla buttercream and mmf.

I know what you are thinking...

No, I did not make the flowers. I wish I could take credit for them b/c they really are beautiful but I ordered them from WholesaleSugarFlowers.com.

I love making confectionary pieces and I love making sugar flowers but honestly, I'm a little too busy these days to do that and take care of Rylee (swim lessons! ballet and tap! gym class! playdates!) and juggle the custom cookie cutter shop AND make other cakes. There's just not enough time!

Anyway, I'm happy I ordered these because they are wonderful!

I lovelovelove the way this cake turned out. It's one of my favorites for sure!

Check out the height on that cake!

Close up of the flowers (check back later this week for a post about the flowers)

Twin's Dedication

This cake was made for the dedication of twins!

It's designed to match the Evite that was sent out ( I do a lot of matching for Evite it seems!) so I hope I did it justice!

This a full marble sheet cake with vanilla buttercream and marshmallow fondant.

This cake gave us a lot of trouble! What we thought would only take us an hour or two (with the fondant) turned into 5 in the morning!

Either way, we're happy with the result and I hope the parents are pleased as well!

Extra Cupcakes

These are extra cupcakes from the order I had made before.

Plain and simple but elegant!

Btw, these are pretty yummy!

Green Grad Caps

These were made for another graduation, just as before.

Just a few changes to these cupcakes, the icing is green and the tops of the caps are plain graham cracker squares dipped in chocolate.

Marble cake with vanilla buttercream.

I really love these cupcakes! They are a lot of fun to make!
