Leila's order #2 - Mikey's cake
This is the second part of Leila's order.
Her boyfriend Mikey is the drummer for the band Shiny Toy Guns (seriously what's the deal with me and my closest friends marrying or dating drummers? is that just a thing we all do or what guys?), so she asked for a drum cake!
This was the first attempt at the drum cake - it's not the easiest cake we've ever done but it's certainly not the hardest.
Mikey is endorsed by ddrum's so we wanted to make the cake look like a snare he would play.
Rodney came in very handy with the details on this cake - since he happens to be a very talented drummer himself!
Chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream and fondant accents (the silver pieces). The logo is a white chocolate transfer!
Fun cake to make, I hope Mikey enjoys it!

Leila's order #1 - Kathy's cupcakes
This is order #1 for Leila. Her mom's and her boyfriend's birthdays fall within a day or two of one another. (and oddly both hers and my birthday are next week).
She wanted something pretty but sort-of retro for her mom, so I suggested this design that I've done a few times.
She requested something super chocolatey for her mom -- these are milk chocolate cupcakes filled with chocolate mousse topped with chocolate buttercream and fondant flowers.
I really love the look of these cupcakes!

Sick
I've been sick.
I haven't done any baking this week but this weekend starts the beginning of two very long and very busy weeks for me, cake and pastry wise.
Hopefully I will have the time to make my own birthday cake!
Look to Monday for some new stuff!

Easter Nests
I made these for fun and to take up to school last week. (yes I am JUST now getting around to posting, we've been busy and our internet was down for a day and a half!)
They are carrot cake cupcakes with vanilla bc dipped in toasted coconut. With jelly beans on top.
These were really easy and fun to make! And tasty!

Krispy Kreme
This is pretty rare. This post is going up before the cake even gets picked up!
This was requested for someone who really loves Krispy Kreme doughnuts. It was a last minute order but I'm still pretty happy with the result. It's supposed to look like a Krispy Kreme box, in case anyone out there has never seen one! (what planet are you on though, seriously?)
Vanilla cake with vanilla bc. The polka dots were made from mmf (marshmallow fondant) and there are nearly 700 of them! SEVEN HUNDRED! I punched out about 100 but I have to admit that my partner in crime punched out and attached the rest. Rodney really came through for me on that. That was some tedious work.
The "Krispy Kreme" logo was made with white chocolate. It came out pretty great and I think I got the colors to match up pretty well. The only problem with this logo is that since I got this order on such short notice I was unable to make it up to the cake shop to get some Guittard chocolate and had to settle for Wilton's instead. Wilton's white chocolate has a yellow look to it and it drives me crazy. I didn't put the trademark logo on the plaque - it was just too small to try and replicate.
Fun cake!
