Crossword and Coffee

This cake was made for a die hard coffee drinker and lover of crosswords!

It's a 1/4 sheet (strawberry cream cake - yum!) iced in vanilla buttercream. The crossword and pencil are fondant - the coffee mug (made to resemble the birthday boy's very own coffee mug used for many years) is RKT covered in fondant as well.

This was harder than it looks but I love the way it turned out! The pencil is my favorite part ;)

Classic NES Controller for Matthew

This cake was made on the fly (we had been home an hour from snowboarding in Colorado when we started it) for my youngest brother Matthew, for his 15th birthday.

Last year I made him the Wii cake, this year he gets classic NES!

It's 1/4 sheet cut down (french vanilla) with strawberry buttercream covered in marshmallow fondant. Rodney did so much work on this cake (I had the flu the entire time we were in Colorado), if it hadn't been for his help, I don't believe there would have been a cake! All of the details are fondant, with the exception of the words, which were piped on by me!

Love this cake!

Sofia's Princess Castle

This cake was made for one of Rylee's BFF's, Sofia. Sofia had her birthday party at pretty cool place called, Let's Pretend in Grapevine. (owned by one of my students mom!)

We based this design on a cake that I found on Cake Central - it's an 8 inch chocolate cake (two layers). The pillars are made from PVC, wrapped in fondant. The tops of the pillars are obviously sugar cones - decorated with junior mints. The cake is iced in vanilla buttercream. All of the other details (flowers, doors) are fondant except for the strawberry creme kisses on top of the castle!

The doll is a cupcake with a Wilton mini doll pick and fondant skirt. Pretty simple but I love the way it turned out!

R2D2 cake

What a fun cake!

Fun because we lovelovelove making cakes for kids around here and fun because this cake was made for a very good friend of mine from highschool!

Facebook/Myspace and Blogger sure do have a way of reuniting friends. You never know who is out there reading your blog ;)

Brandon and Mindy's oldest son, Dylan, is turning 5 and wanted a Star Wars themed cake. It's half chocolate/half vanilla, iced in buttercream with fondant details/accents.

Rodney did a great job of carving this cake out and getting the right shape. I'm not going to lie though, it was incredibly difficult to ice. I don't know if I did the best job of getting it iced but I think it turned out okay in the end.

Liberty's 1st Birthday

These cakes were made for some very good friend's of ours, for their daughter's first birthday! Mommy Marissa pretty much gave me creative freedom with these only asking to match the invitation print as best we could. This cake is especially special to me because I also made the cake for shower thrown to welcome Liberty! I'm pleased with the results but their are definitely some changes that I would make in hindsight.

The main cake is a 1/4 sheet vanilla iced in buttercream with fondant and buttercream accents. I love how the cake turned out but I'm not sold on the paper I chose for the board. I think the two different blues are a little too much. After thinking and thinking about how I wanted to add the "swirly" design, I finally decided to carefully brush some brilliant silver luster dust in different patterns on the buttercream. I'm very pleased with the results.

The Smash Cake

This is also a vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream. It's a 5 inch cake, the "1" on top is fondant that I painted with teal luster dust. Love the colors on this one!

Liberty is such a cutie and it was a ton of fun watching her dive into her cake! Happy Birthday Liberty!

Harley Cake

This cake was made for some friends of ours from church!



The cake is vanilla with vanilla buttercream - the vanilla buttercream is heavily dyed black. The flames are made from marshmallow fondant and after much debate, were formed using a cookie cutter (made my Rodney). We made them all in yellow. I then painted the orange around the sides using orange food coloring mixed with vanilla extract.

The logo shape is made from fondant but the words/letters were piped on (by yours truly) with none other than...vanilla buttercream! I free-handed the words and though they aren't totally centered, I'm still pretty pleased with the results.

Had fun with this cake!
